Kinja'd!!!

Just saw the most intense and moving display I’ve even seen on a public road. Last week, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . My pictures here can’t do it justice, but all 4 NB lanes of US281 were shut down for 5+ miles with hundreds of cruisers end-to-end, lights flashing, from as far away as Fort Worth. On the one year anniversary of the ambush in Dallas this hits especially hard. I was trying to say something more eloquent here, but I’m too torn up. Can we just stop killing each other, please? Fuck.

“can we stop killing each other?”

If the entirety of human history is any indicator: no.

Unfortunately I saw something similar earlier this year. Very sad, very moving.

Sadly, you’re right, but still an honorable goal.

A fitting tribute. May he rest in peace.

I wish we had that type of brotherhood in other professions. For the most part it’s a dog eat dog world. I really commend law enforcement for standing shoulder to shoulder like they do.

It’s got to be hard to be an honest cop in the current America.

Damn, that sucks.

On a lighter note, no wonder that looks familiar; I used to live right around there off of West Ave.

I used to live around there too. I was over by Bitters and Blanco. There was a smaller HEB on West I used to go to so I could avoid the huge parking lots at the HEB Plus when I just wanted to get in and out. I was actually over in that part of town for a routine doctors appointment and headed back to work when this rolled by.

Generally speaking, I am not a rah-rah police and military type person. I distrust people who are too rah-rah about the police and military. It’s too close to authoritarianism.

Yes, killing cops is obviously bad, but if I had to drive on that road I would not be moved, I would be like, “that’s all well and good you’re honoring this guy but seriously do you need to close down 5+ miles of a busy highway to do it?”

Frankly, police forget the whole “serve and protect” motto a little too often, and there are plenty of ways for them to honor their murdered colleague without causing a mass traffic disruption.

I’ve never seen that, I have seen them shut the H1 down on Oahu when they move the president from the air force base, tons of feds and cops. One time a motorcycle cop fell and was killed while in a presidential convoy there.

I waited to reply to this, because I was afraid I could type way too much here. And maybe we can have a conversation about it. Anyway, I’m with you 100% that people who are too rah-rah scare me. I think the whole “Support the Blue” movement, while perhaps good-intentioned, does more to empower police to take advantage of people than anything else. That being said, I think the road closure wasn’t that big of a deal. Maybe it’s just being in the South, but we have huge funeral processions like this with miles of road closures fairly often. The main difference here is that the cars in it all had flashing lights. I can see how it might come off as a show of force or a blue wall kind of thing, but I saw it more as putting aside the problems with our police for a minute and showing appreciation for what is dangerous, yet necessary job.
